Why Use a "Starvmount DC Relay with Wiring Harness"

The DC Relay with Wiring Harness helps create a cleaner and more reliable Starlink DC installation by keeping the high-current 12V or 24V cable run as short as possible.

In many van, motorhome, caravan and boat installs, the battery or fuse panel is not close to the ideal switch location. Without a relay, this can mean running a longer switched low-voltage cable, which increases the risk of voltage drop and can lead to unstable Starlink behaviour, failed start-up or random reboots.

Using a relay allows the PSU or DC2DC converter to be mounted close to the battery or fuse panel, where the low-voltage supply is strongest. The longer run can then be made on the higher voltage Starlink side, which is far less sensitive to voltage drop. The included low-current switch cable can be routed to a convenient switch position or connected to a control system such as a Victron Cerbo, without carrying the main load current.

The result is a more professional install with improved power stability, cleaner switching and easier integration into campervan and marine electrical systems.

Brief Install Guide of a "Starvmount DC Relay with Wiring Harness"

Mount the selected PSU or DC2DC converter as close to the battery, fuse panel or power source as practical. Connect the cable labelled POWER IN to a protected DC supply, then connect the relay output cable to the input of the selected PSU or Starlink power device. Fit the correct fuse for the connected system: 7.5A for Starlink MINI, 15A for Standard Starlink or 25A for Standard Starlink with router.

The 3-core switch cable is used to control the relay. Red is the control power feed, green is the relay trigger and black is for optional switch LED negative only. The relay engages when red is connected to green through a switch or control output. If using an illuminated switch, the black wire must only be connected to the LED negative terminal and must never be connected directly to positive or across the switch contacts.

Always confirm polarity, fuse selection and terminal security before applying power. For full installation guidance, please see: DC Relay with Wiring Harness Install Guide

Warning Summary Use only with 12V or 24V DC systems. Not for connection directly to mains electricity. Incorrect installation may cause short circuit, overheating, fuse operation or fire risk. Install with the correct fuse protection and correct polarity. Check cable routing to avoid chafing, crush damage, heat sources and water ingress. For installation in vehicles or boats, secure all wiring against vibration and movement. Installation should be carried out by a competent person familiar with low-voltage DC systems. Confirm compatibility with the connected PSU and system current draw before use.
